Computer virus
What is a
computer virus?
A computer
virus is a computer program that is meant to perform a certain task at
a
certain time or once certain conditions are met. These programs are
almost always destructive.
Computer-viruses
are everywhere. Their names can give computer users a real
scare — Klez, W32.Rajump , W32, PrettyPark.Worm. with
the ever growing internet and ever
increasing number of computer users the only way to control a
computer-viruses growth is through computer safety.
The
majority of viruses are meant to be destructive in one form or
another. Whether it is sent to destroy your hardware or delete your
files. Maybe it was sent to track every keystroke you make on your
computer and send that information back to it's creator so they may
steal your savings, run up credit cards and leave you in ruins.
A
computer virus is passed from one computer to the next either thru
e-mail or through another infected file, floppy disk, CD, DVD, Jump
Drive or some other medium. If you download files from the internet
they can be infected with viruses.
A
lot of viruses are spread thru e-mail even though you can't generally
get a virus from simply reading your e-mails. With the virus Klez that
has all changed by simply opening your e-mail infected with this virus
it will infect and spread thru your system.
Tracing
a virus is a very difficult task because you could have infected your
system weeks ago and the virus could be there waiting for a certain
event to happen before it executes and makes itself known to you. In
the mean time you could have sent this virus to many people and not
even known you had done it.
In today's
world of viruses you and your computer need to be kept safe and that
means using anti-virus software. That is not all though Your software
needs to be current and your virus definitions need to be up to date.
If you do not update your definitions at least weekly you can
almost be sure you will eventually catch a virus.
Don't let it
happen to you, because if it happens to you, you will infect someone
else.
