You made a file
and saved it but you don't know where. Searching for files with windows
is easy. Just follow along with this computer tutorial and you will
find the files you are looking for quickly. We start again by moving
our mouse over the
start
button and left clicking and then left
clicking on the
Search
icon look for the magnifying glass.
Once you left click on the search icon the window shown below will pop
up.
In the blue box on the left fill in the information you know. Let's
look for the text file
dan-list.txt
that we made from the last lesson. I forgot the entire name of the file
and where I put it. I do know it had the word
dan in the file name.
So in the top box I fill in what I know
dan
the line below is used if you know something that is written inside the
file. You can expand the other options down and look at them if you
would like. Sometime they may be of use to you. Once you have
filled out the information that you know press the
search button.
The picture below shows the results from my computer.
As
you can see there were many results, so many results were returned
because I knew so little about the file I was looking for. If you look
at the file names it did find
dan
is in all of them somewhere. Also the very top result is the file we
are looking for.
If
you look next to the file name it tells you where this file is located.
If you double click on the file name itself, the file will open in
whatever program opens it. As you can see searching for files is pretty
easy. You can find the file by it's name or part of it, you can search
all of your computer or part of it and you can search for a particular
type of file.
Everyone at some point and time needs to find a
file they have lost, don't worry about it. As long as searching for
files is this easy there is nothing to worry about.
