Teen
Internet Safety is a growing concern and it's a topic every parent
should be interested in. First let me say I as a parent believe in the
"innocent
until proven guilty" approach to parenting.
I also believe that when you come across
"the bloody knife"
you investigate. I am not here to be my children's best friend I am
their parent. As their parent it is my job to keep them safe from not
only all the
predators
out there but also from
themselves.
Teen
Internet Safety begins with us, the Net Wise Parent. We as parents need
to set forth rules for the appropriate use and behavior while using the
computer. We the parents must also discuss this with our children and
educate our children as to the pitfalls and dangers on the net. The
first place to start is with an Internet Safety Contract.
This contract states what is allowed to be disclosed over the
Internet and what is not allowed to be disclosed. The Internet Safety
Contract also states any other online behavior that must be followed
and the discipline that will happen should it be broken. Once completed
the parents and children read the entire contract and sign it. It must
then be hung by the computer in plain sight.
Click on the link below and print off the contract or write your own.
Here is a Internet
Safety Contract feel free to print it off and use it.
Teen internet safety begins with us the parent, we have to make our
children aware of the internet predator. We also need to make them
understand that the internet predator is real, and is a real threat to
them.
Once our children are well informed young adults about
the internet predator, and about all the online dangers there are. We
as parents must let them go and let them do it on their own right?
NOT A CHANCE!
We as parents must watch our kids and monitor what they are doing.
Remember were active well informed Parents.
Don't think you have a problem
great but lets check to make sure.
Internet safety rules are for everyones safety. Safety rules are meant
to keep them safe and to stop problems from starting in the first
place.
These
internet safety rules may help you get started.
Teen internet safety and chat rooms go hand in hand. Chat
room talk is very confusing especially with all those Acronyms /
computer vocabulary the kids
use. Do you know what it all means? You should know what it all means
or have the resources to find out what it all means.
Do you know what
"BTW my
b/f was
ROFL and
OBTW PAW." means?
Well it means "
By the
way my
boyfriend
was
Rolling on the floor
laughing and
oh
by the way Parents
are watching." If you hear or see alot of Acronyms /
computer vocabulary being
used and don't know what they mean,
Check
out this page full of the most common acronyms being used.
Hey I just realized I may have gotten ahead of myself. I talked about
Acronyms and how confusing they are and I didn't even ask you if you
knew what a chat room is or the dangers of them.
Well let's talk about chat rooms.
Hi glad to have you back. Any parent that has a child especially a teen
that has access to the internet should be aware of all the pitfalls and
dangers online. This article written by Harlan Coben titled
The Undercover Parent is
a must read for all parents.
This is a small excerpt from that article.
Today’s
overprotective parents fight their kids’ battles on the playground,
berate coaches about playing time and fill out college applications —
yet when it comes to chatting with pedophiles or watching beheadings or
gambling away their entire life savings, then...then
their children deserve independence?
Some
will say that you should simply trust your child, that if he is old
enough to go on the Internet he is old enough to know the dangers.
Trust is one thing, but surrendering parental responsibility to a
machine that allows the entire world access to your home borders on
negligence.

Do you know if you have a teen internet safety problem? Don't guess
let's find out together. Here is an
easy
way to see where your computer has been. If all the history
files are gone we can still find out where your computers been.
Let's find out.
If your computer user is that smart that they have gotten rid of the
hidden files there is still another way of finding out where your
computer has been using a dat file reader.
Let's
look at that way.
Hey welcome back,
Remember
who we are? We are Net wise parents and we are an active
well informed force in their kid's
internet safety. I know some of things you have read on this site must
have
shocked you.
Ok well maybe they didn't shock you, if they didn't you already know
the problem. Let's work together to make a safer environment for our
kids.
We as well informed active parents in teen internet safety will at some
point need to block a website. Maybe we need to block
myspace or
facebook maybe it's
xanga or even
hi5 the kids use
them all. Let's take a tutorial on how to
block a website.
In
the method we just looked at we used Internet Explorers Content Advisor
to block myspace and I showed you how to add other sites to it as well.
There is another way to block a website by using the host file on your
computer.
Here I show you
how.
Facebook, Xanga, Hi5 and Myspace are all social networking sites and
there is nothing wrong with them if used properly. The problem is to
many people misuse them, let's look at
Myspace
safety.
