User Accounts
Understanding
user accounts is not all that hard. Generally when you buy your
computer it has two accounts setup on it. One is the administrator
account and the other is a guest account.
The Administrator
account allows you to change any setting on the computer. The guest
account gives access to programs and the internet. The guest account
does not have the rights to change settings and is usually used by a
visitor or someone like the babysitter.
The first thing you
should do when you buy a computer is to password protect the
administrator account and secondly make an account for everyone in
the family. Also when you make the accounts they should all be
limited accounts.
When everyone uses a limited account it
reduces the risk of Phishing attempts, trojans, viruses and
spyware from completely taking over your system because
certain
areas are not accessible when the computer is running in a limited
account.
The Administrator account should only be held by you
the parent. This account controls the entire computer you can delete
files, change settings and override system settings and the only person
to do this should be you.
